Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Overview… a young woman whose life has been entirely planned out by her father. Mary will marry William Carey, the son of a well-to-do merchant, and live out a peaceful life in the countryside. The responsibility of a more political engagement is given to her sister, the crafty and ambitious Anne Boleyn. Thomas is certain his eldest daughter (Anne) is charming enough to beguile the most powerful man in the country – King Henry VIII himself. What he doesn’t count on is the king falling for Mary instead.

Personality... sweet and kind-hearted. Mary is a girl with simple tastes and desires. She looks forward to an ordinary life in the country and has never given a thought to court politics or the accumulation of power. Unfortunately, Mary is now in a position where she is forced to consider both.
