Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Living… in solitude. However, while traveling north against the tide of animals migrating south for the winter, Manny gets saddled with Sid after he stops two rhinos from eating the chatty ground sloth. “Isn’t this great?” Sid to Manny, delighted. “You and me, two bachelors knockin’ about in the wild.”
Profession… unemployed, as the Pleistocene job market has yet to develop. However, Manny moonlights as an amateur architecture critic, and he can be just as ruthless as any paid critic. His take on Stonehenge? “Modern architecture…it’ll never last.”
Interests… eating peaches, whacking Sid with his trunk, and skewering others with a wit that’s as sharp as his tusks. Really, Manny just wants to be left alone, but as long as Sid's along, he'll just have to settle for getting back at the sloth in whatever way he can.
Relationship Status… widowed. Manny once had a wife and a kid, but one day, they were attacked by a group of humans brandishing spears and rocks. Manny tried to buy his family time to escape, but the humans cornered and killed them. Their deaths were a blow that Manny never recovered from, leading to his surly demeanor today.
Challenge… returning a human baby to its parents. When a pack of saber-toothed tigers attacks a tribe of humans, a dying woman entrusts Manny with her baby. At Sid’s urging, Manny reluctantly agrees to track down the humans and return the baby. Due to his last experience with humans, Manny is initially skeptical of baby “Pinky," but the infant quickly wins over Manny, bringing out the mammoth's surprisingly strong paternal instincts.
Personality… impatient, sarcastic, and solitary. Manny could not be less compatible with Sid. His instinct is to push others away, but once he accepts someone into his herd, he is fiercely loyal and will not hesitate to risk his life for them.
