Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living… in New York City in the 1950s. New York is the perfect location for Lorelei to achieve her goal of finding a rich and successful beau.

Profession… showgirl. Lorelei is a natural performer, and that extends to her social life as well. In fact, Lorelei also might be considered a professional flirt. She endlessly baits and banters with men of means; verbal repartee is her forte.

Interests… diamonds, shopping, and falling in love with a rich man. Lorelei knows that landing a rich husband is one of the few ways to ensure financial comfort for women of lesser means in the 1950s. As she puts it, "Don't you know that a man being rich is like a girl being pretty? You wouldn't marry a girl just because she's pretty, but my goodness, doesn't it help?"

Relationship Status… in love with her nerdy but rich fiancé, Gus. Gus would do – and buy – anything under the sun for her. However, when her showgirl work takes her to France without Gus, Gus' no-nonsense father hires a hardened private detective to watch her for any infidelity or other questionable behavior.

Challenge… keeping the private detective Malone off her tail, and staying out of a scandal. When Sir Francis, a rich owner of a diamond mine, approaches her, it seems like Lorelei just can’t resist the temptation. Knowing Lorelei, if there’s diamonds involved, there seems little doubt that she will talk her way into sticky situations.

Personality… flirtatious, bubbly, and a little shallow. With Lorelei, it’s usually money first, love second. Her charms often get her exactly what she wants out of the men she meets. As she likes to say, “diamonds are a girl’s best friend.”
