Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Grew Up… alongside his brother, Thor. Though both princes are (or were at one point, at least) considered equally capable of one day becoming king, Loki has always been different. Physically he is smaller and paler than other Asgardian children. Next to the brawny Thor in particular, Loki comes across as meek and incompetent – much to Loki’s dismay.
Living… in Thor’s shadow. Loki has never felt equally appreciated or loved by his father, Odin. While not the strongest, Loki is certainly very smart and resourceful, but feels that his talents are overlooked. This has made him very resentful. Constantly looking out for his own interest, Loki is not above putting down his brother for personal gain. He once tells the court, “I love Thor more dearly than any of you, but you know what he is. He's arrogant, he's reckless, he’s dangerous! You saw how he was today. Is that what Asgard needs from its King?”
Profession… prince of Asgard. His “job” is to fight alongside his brother for the good of the Asgardian dimension. Though Loki often interprets his duties quite differently from Thor.
Relationship Status… single. Loki considers commitment to others as a sign of weakness. This view reflects his generally cynical perspective on life.
Challenge… gaining the respect and love he feels he deserves, in particular from his father, Odin. Loki will only be happy if he can convince Odin that he is a worthy son – with the potential of becoming a legendary king. But perhaps Loki’s overriding challenge, however, is to love himself. If he remains unable to do so, he is doomed to hurt those he loves most.
Personality… sensitive, intelligent, and introverted. In combination with his poor self-image, these qualities can make Loki spiteful, jealous, and angry. Loki is shrewd and thoughtful, though, especially when compared to Thor. He has a strategic mind, capable of being conniving and sly.
