Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew up… quickly. Kim is known as one of the most sophisticated and experienced girls at William McKinley High. She does drugs, has sex, and enjoys flaunting her exploits to her peers.

Living… with her strange and dysfunctional family. Kim is constantly arguing with her mother, who wants her to get better grades and spend less time with her “freak” friends. She also has to deal with her dumb stepfather and bizarre brother, Chip, who sleeps on the living room couch.

Profession... high school student at McKinley High. Though she’s not much of a student, frankly.

Interests… her boyfriend. Kim will never admit it, but she’s crazy about her “bad boy” lover, Daniel Desario. Aside from him, Kim doesn’t have much else positive in her life right now except the fleeting pleasures that drugs and partying provide.

Relationship Status… on-again-off-again. While Kim’s relationship with Daniel tends to be tumultuous, she’ll never actually break up with him (even if she believes him to be unfaithful). But they certainly argue enough: “Are you calling me irrational? Because I’ll tear your head off, Daniel. I’ll tear it off and throw it over that fence.”

Challenge… feeling inadequate. Between her disapproving mother, her aimless boyfriend and her lazy, apathetic friends, Kim doesn’t have much to boost her self-esteem. She feels especially worthless next to her new friend Lindsay Weir, a former Mathlete and straight-A student.

Personality… confrontational and often abusive. Kim tends to ridicule everyone at McKinley High, even her friends. Everyone knows that it’s a bad idea to mess with Kim Kelly if she’s in a bad mood. Among her more creative insults: “Why don’t you blow your nose in some bread and make me a sandwich.” But her budding friendship with Lindsay is helping to bring out a (slightly) softer, or at least friendlier, side to Kim.
