Overview... a 1920s chorus girl with big dreams. Though Kathy likes to brag that the theater is a more dignified profession, she adores the glitz and glam of Hollywood and is desperate to act alongside her favorite movie stars. Unfortunately, right now she’s just getting paid to pop out of cakes at their parties. But even though she gets off on the wrong foot with silent movie star Don Lockwood, he just might be her ticket to singing and dancing in one of those newly-invented “talking pictures.”
Personality... plucky, passionate, and persistent. Kathy gives as good as she gets; if someone offends her, she’ll offend them right back—even if that person happens to be a major celebrity. But in her professional life she channels that fiery spirit into her impressive singing and dancing skills. And when she keeps her temper in check, Kathy can also be funny, warm, and compassionate.

Don has worked hard to get where he is today, with his former partner Cosmo. When Don and Lina's latest film is transformed into a musical, Don has the perfect voice for the songs. But Lina—well, even with the best efforts of a diction coach, they still decide to dub over her voice. Kathy Selden is brought in, an aspiring actress, and while she is working on the movie, Don falls in love with her. Will Kathy continue to "aspire", or will she get the break she deserves?
