Kate Sharma

Grew Up… in Bombay, India. After Kate’s mother died, her father remarried Mary, who disobeyed her parents and left London’s high society to marry for love rather than status. When Kate’s father also died, Mary continued to raise Kate as her own, alongside her daughter and Kate’s half-sister, Edwina. 

Visiting… London, England. Unbeknownst to Mary and Edwina, Kate has made a deal with Mary’s parents, the Sheffields, who will supply Edwina’s dowry and provide Mary some financial stability on the condition that Edwina marries a man of English nobility. 

Profession… Edwina’s mentor. Kate has put all her focus into finding Edwina a husband and resigned herself to becoming a spinster. She has made it her mission to raise Edwina to be the perfect debutante. She has invested years into teaching her a variety of languages, instruments, dances, and literature to ensure Edwina can avoid a life of destitution in the wake of their father’s death.

Interests… horseback riding and hunting. When Kate needs to step away from society’s expectations, her solution is to find the nearest stable. Not only that, she’s also quite knowledgeable about horse racing and is strategic with her choices. Kate is also a skilled hunter, as she was given a chance to hunt with a royal family in India for whom her father used to be a secretary.  

Relationship Status… single. Kate feels drawn to Viscount Anthony Bridgerton after an encounter in the woods until she overhears that he’s merely looking for a wife to fulfill the role of viscountess and produce children of “good stock.” Kate has high standards for what true love is, and she doesn’t want to settle for anything less than that. As she says, “True love is something else entirely. It is when the rest of the world goes quiet. It is not eyes that meet, but souls that dance. Settle into each other. Make room for each other. Until there is nowhere else to hide.”

Challenge… helping Edwina find love. Kate does not want to burden Edwina with the knowledge of the Sheffields’ inheritance, believing her sister would choose to appease her family over finding love. Unfortunately, Anthony has his sights set on marrying Edwina, and Kate is determined to stop that match in its tracks. How would someone like him care anything about love?

Personality… confident, witty, and protective. Kate's assertiveness makes her quite the unexpected obstacle for Edwina’s suitors and few can match her quick wit. However, her strong sense of duty to her family might lead her astray if she doesn’t stop to listen to what Edwina and Mary want for themselves.
