Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew up… in the television industry. Jordan knows Hollywood like the back of her hand. After stints at United Artists, Atlantic Records and NBC, she’s ready to take on her new job at the National Broadcasting System (NBS).

Living… in an industry that still has a fair amount of sexism. For all of Hollywood’s liberal leanings, Jordan is finding that being a female executive is still tough going. Very few people have confidence in her, as indicated by recent activity in the stock market when she got her promotion: “AMG stock just dropped three-eights of a point. I actually caused a dip in the NASDAQ index just by showing up to work in the morning. I don’t think a lot of people are betting on me.”

Profession… President for Entertainment Programming for NBS. Jordan has held a few high-level positions, but the stakes have never been this high. Every day at NBS is like a rollercoaster, and Jordan is the one who has to control it all. She jokingly asks aloud, “Nothing bad is going to happen on my first day, right?” But she knows to be prepared for anything and everything.

Interests… keeping everyone happy. Jordan, despite her executive title, is more interested in making great TV than she is in making money. “You look like one of them,” says Studio 60 producer Danny Tripp, tilting his head toward the executives, “but you talk like one of us,” referring to himself and the rest of the creative team.

Relationship Status… single. Jordan doesn’t yet have time for a boyfriend while she’s in charge of the network, though she may be in need of a support network ater she finds out that she’s going to be a mother.

Challenge… fixing NBS. The network’s shows, especially Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, used to win both awards and viewers. It’s Jordan’s job to get them back on top.

Personality… strong and business-savvy. Jordan is a rare species. She wants to make good business decisions while maintaining artistic integrity. She believes in Studio 60 and is willing to put her career on the line for it: “If the ratings go up, the sponsors who dropped out? We’ll welcome them back in… at 120% of the cost of the original ad buy. We’re going to be the first network to charge a coward fee.”
