Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living… back on the outside after five years in prison. Johnny’s learned a lot of lessons during his five-year stint in the can. “The biggest mistake I made before was shooting for peanuts,” he tells his lover, Fay. “Five years have taught me one thing, if nothing else: anytime you take a chance you better be sure the rewards are worth the risk, because they can put you away just as fast for a ten dollar heist as they can for a million dollar job.”

Profession… thief. Johnny is a veteran. He’s been around enough to know every trick in the book and every wise guy in town. Now, he’s organizing a job in which he plans to haul away two million – his most ambitious project yet.

Interests… his own integrity. Johnny cares about the money of course, but he takes more stock in helping out his own friends. “None of these men are criminals in the usual sense,” he explains to Fay, “They’ve all got jobs, they all live seemingly normal, decent lives, but they got their problems and they’ve all got a little larceny in ‘em.”

Relationship Status… engaged to Fay. Johnny is ready to give up his entire career for Fay (after this one last job, of course). The woman is dedicated to him, and he loves her enough to run away with her.

Challenge… pulling off this ambitious heist. Johnny is planning to do something that’s never been done before: rob a racetrack. It’s a complicated job with a lot of moving parts, a plenty of things that can go wrong. It’s Johnny’s job to keep everything in order.

Personality… smooth, fast-talking, and always one step ahead of the next guy. Johnny disproves the old cliché that there’s no honor amongst thieves. He’s a man who keeps his word and looks out for his friends.
