Johnny Castle

Grew up… with nothing. Johnny has come a long way from where he started out. It’s a long road from the rough end of town to the luxurious Kellerman resort in the Catskills.

Living… amongst the wealthy. Though he grew up on the streets, Johnny's proven quite popular amongst the upper-class women who attend the resort. As he wryly puts it, “You come from the streets and suddenly you’re up here, and these women, they are throwing themselves at ya, and they smell so good, and they really take care of themselves. I mean, I never knew women could be like that, ya know?”

Profession… dance instructor and leader of Kellerman’s entertainment staff. Charismatic and handsome, Johnny has developed quite a following at the resort, but it's still not quite what he wants.

Interests... dancing– real dancing, that is. Along with many of his colleagues, Johnny likes rock 'n' roll, which the stuffy environment of Kellerman's frowns upon. The only solution? Host after hours parties, where everyone can dance to their heart's delight.

Relationship Status… involved in a budding romance with Baby Houseman, a guest at the resort. Baby isn’t like all the other women Johnny has known— she seems to believe in Johnny, to treat him like more than a piece of meat. And despite her youth, she's taught him quite a few life lessons.

Challenge… keeping his relationship with Baby a secret. Johnny and Baby love each other, but they have everything going against them: Johnny can't have a relationship with a resort guest, and Baby’s parents would be horrified for her to associate with Johnny. When a series of events bring their relationship to a head, they’re forced to choose between each other and the lives that they’re supposed to lead.

Personality… charming and suave, yet cynical. Johnny is used to being treated “like I’m nothin’ because I am nothin,’” so it's a shock when he meets someone as kind or as selfless as Baby. With her help, he comes to believe teaches him that the world can, at times, be a good place.
