Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Overview… the matriarch of the Huangs, a Taiwanese-American family that has just moved from D.C. Chinatown to the predominantly white suburbs of Orlando, Florida. It may be tough for her son Eddie to fit in at his new school, but it has been equally if not more difficult for Jessica to adjust to the neighborhood mom group. Can you say “culture shock”?
Personality… assertive, resourceful, and sharp-tongued. If you want to be coddled or treated gently, you are looking in the wrong place. From her demanding expectations for her children to her critical business sense, Jessica takes no prisoners. While her husband Eddie pursues the American Dream with his cowboy steakhouse Cattleman’s Ranch, Jessica asks the important questions. Such as, why are the patrons drinking water and not beer? Is that more than one napkin that they’re taking? How is Cattleman’s Ranch supposed to make a profit like this?! Jessica Huang is not running a charity!
