Jessa Johansson

Living… in Brooklyn after graduating from Oberlin College with her friends Hannah and Marnie. But she’s done her share of globe-trotting. She only returned to New York to figure out what to do about an unwanted pregnancy. Since then, she’s been in and out of the city for a variety of things ranging from marriage to rehab.

Profession… nanny, though her professionalism is compromised by her flirtatious nature. She’s not the best nanny, having once lost her client’s kids, but her charm can get her out of any mess. Her go-with-the-flow attitude makes it hard for her to stomach a regular gig, though: “You know what the weirdest part about having a job is? You have to be there every day, even on the days you don’t feel like it.”

Interests... the wild side of life. Jessa loves danger – whether it’s in the form of drugs, random sexual encounters, or salacious parties, she likes to live life on the edge. She enjoys the luxuries of privilege while also maintaining a “bohemian” sensibility. She’s traveled the world, spending time in places such as Amsterdam, Bali and France. When she’s in New York she keeps a hand in every scene, from Bushwick to Wall Street.

Relationship Status... single, except when she is married for about a minute. Her dating life is as whimsical as every other aspect of her life. Jessa loves the initial spark of attraction and is bored by everything after that. She never wants to be the one who’s burned. In her words: “I’m attracted to everyone when I first meet them. And then it wears off. It always wears off.”

Challenge… living up to her image. Jessa projects an air of confidence and impenetrability, but she’s often at a loss when she has to face the consequences of her actions. She lives in the present to a fault, never thinking of the inevitable comedown. As a result, her feelings are often taken for granted, since her friends assume nothing can affect her. She doesn’t have it all together; she’s as lost as everyone else, but has the hardest time admitting it.

Personality… free-spirited. Jessa lives a high-risk, high-reward life-style. She doesn’t want to be pinned down by anything or anyone. Out of all her friends, she’s the most comfortable with herself and the least judgmental. She doesn’t look back and she barely looks forward. She’s all about being in the moment. As she puts it, “I don’t like women telling other women what to do or how to do it or when to do it.”
