Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Overview… a saucy undergrad at Radcliffe College in the 1960’s. Jenny studies comparative literature and renaissance music. In her free time, she plays piano for the Bach Society. One day, during her shift at the library desk, she meets Oliver Barrett IV, the wealthy hockey star studying across the road at Harvard, and they fall fast in love. But Jenny is the daughter of a humble baker, and for Oliver’s father, bulwark of the upper crust, that isn’t going to fly.

Personality… artsy, flirtatious, and hyper-confident. Jenny first piques Oliver’s attention at the library desk by calling him ‘Preppie,’ for his upper-class appearance. She is content to spend hours exchanging witty banter, or “verbal volleyball,” as Oliver calls it. She is a bit of a divisive figure on campus. Some find her to be uptight; others find her to be irresistible.
