Character Analysis

Grew Up… in the Upper City. Jayce grew up in the Upper Cty of Piltover. Like most of the citizens of Piltover, he is unaware of how big the disparity in wealth between his city and the Under City of Zaun truly is. They are twin cities, but Piltover sucks up all of the resources and leaves Zaun to scavenge for the scraps. Jayce’s lack of awareness around this issue becomes important in his adult life as he gets involved with politics.
Profession… scientist. Jayce has been working on perfecting crystals with the ability to utilize arcane magic. His research faced a lot of scrutiny from the City Council which fears the use of magic. Jayce has big goals of using magic to increase the economic power of Piltover as well as allowing citizens to heal their ailments and make their daily work easier.
Interests… arcane magic. When Jayce was a child, he and his mother were saved from a near-death experience by arcane magic. Since then, Jayce has had a fixation on scientifically understanding how magic works and utilizing it to improve the lives of everyday people. His continued study into the subject eventually pays off and gets him some recognition from other scientists.
Relationship Status… involved with Mel Medara. After the success of his scientific ventures, Jayce gains some political influence, and he becomes acquainted with Mel Medarda, a Councilwoman of Piltover. Their relationship has become serious quickly, and they lean on each other heavily during the political turbulence caused by Zaun’s push for independence. Mel helps to guide Jayce as he tries to navigate the political sphere of the Upper City. Jayce relies on Mel and loves her deeply. As he says to her, “Nothing feels impossible when I’m with you.”
Challenge… bypassing the political power held by his elders. Jayce’s ventures into the realm of arcane magic are controversial. Many of the elders of the city do not want him to continue his research and potentially put magic into the wrong hands. Jayce is passionate about his work and refuses to let these elders be an obstacle to his vision. He is determined to find clever political avenues to undermine their authority and get his way.
Personality… motivated and tough. Whether or not his decisions are fully informed, Jayce has always stuck to his stances and made his goals a reality. Jayce has faced a lot of adversity and criticism in his pursuit of mastering the arcane. Even if a large portion of it was warranted, he masterfully maneuvered his way around roadblocks to become a successful scientist and political figure.
