Janet

Grew Up… in the Neutral Zone, where other Janets are stored. Constructed by the Makers of Light, Darkness, and Everything, Janets are knowledgeable about every fact about the universe, and are neither human nor electronic. They are mere beings designed to help construct and facilitate neighborhoods. As Janet continuously emphasizes, she’s “not a girl.” Michael took Janet from the Neutral Zone and, with her help, designed his first Good Place neighborhood.

Living… in a void. Janet is meant to pop up upon request of other Good Place residents, delivering information or any object. In between demands, she resides in her void, which she describes as a “boundless, barren nothingness.” Yep, it sounds classy.

Profession… a carrier of information or any object of the universe. Janet, who helps Michael run the neighborhood, develops more human emotions as she continues to help the Good Place, whose residents reboot her. With each reboot, she becomes more and more advanced. 

Relationship Status… single, for now. With each reboot, though, she progresses more and becomes capable of human emotions. During some reboots, she becomes attached to other Good Place residents, such as Jason.

Challenge… processing emotions. As Janet develops and becomes more human, she becomes attuned to human challenges and personality traits. With that, she must be able to first admit to her feelings, as well as open herself up to others and allow humans to help her, although she is used to it being the other way around. Human traits take some getting used to, though, such as walking: “I’ve never had to walk before...Now I’m bored. Walking is dumb,” Janet once said.

Personality… analytical, loyal, and flexible, Janet is an easy and useful friend to have when in need of information or advice. Her perception of the universe is far superior to anyone else, and she’s always there for her friends, who in turn help her with the process of becoming more like a real girl. Sorry. Not a girl.
