Jackson Avery

Grew Up... a good-looking athlete in a family of nerdy geniuses. Jackson is the grandson of legendary surgeon Harper Avery, the namesake of the prestigious Harper Avery Award. His wealthy family manages the Harper Avery Foundation and his mother Catherine is also a world-renowned surgeon. But since Jackson was “the pretty one,” his relatives never expected much from him. As Jackson explains it, “I had to push myself. Hard.” He decided to become a surgeon after hearing the inspiring stories his grandfather used to tell around the dinner table.

Living... defiantly, in Seattle, Washington. Jackson’s famous grandfather wanted his grandson to join him at Massachusetts General Hospital, but Jackson decided to forge his own path across the country.

Profession... surgical resident at the newly merged Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital. That’s a big shift for Jackson, who began his residency at the now-closed Mercy West Medical Center. He initially feels quite competitive as he tries to establish himself at the new hospital.

Interests... eating waffles, performing plastic surgery, and impressing the mentors he looks up to.

Relationship Status... single. For now Jackson’s just trying to adjust to his new life at Seattle Grace Mercy West. But with his chiseled physique, Jackson isn’t one to stay solo for long. Even he admits, “You should see me without a shirt on. It's kinda ridiculous.”

Challenge... forging his own path. Although Jackson could easily breeze through his medical career on his lineage alone, he’s determined to make a name for himself without relying on the Avery pedigree. 

Personality... honest, quick-witted, protective, and composed. Jackson’s not afraid to say what’s on his mind, even if it means hurting someone else’s feelings. Although he’s usually even-keeled and impartial, he can also be quite stubborn when it comes to something he truly believes in. Jackson has a laid-back confidence that he doesn’t feel the need to assert all the time, but he knows how to turn on the charm when he has to. Above all, Jackson has a strong instinct to help and protect others.
