Character Analysis

Overview… a bored New Yorker nearing his middle years. He feels like his life and marriage are stuck in a rut. Luckily for him, he and his wife have decided to separate as amicably as possible. Jack is looking for something a bit more interesting in the bedroom. He hasn’t had fun with his cerebral wife in a long time. As he tells his friend Gabe, “I’m tired of being corrected and criticized.”
Personality… sad, desperate, and unsure of himself. Jack likes to pretend that he’s an upstanding guy, but in private he feels free to act duplicitously. Despite his intelligence, he feels like he’s been lacking the kind of free-spirited fun that he used to have in his youth.

When Jack and Sally announce that they're splitting up, this comes as a shock to their best friends Gabe and Judy. Maybe mostly because they also are drifting apart and are now being made aware of it. So while Jack and Sally try to go on and meet new people, the marriage of Gabe and Judy gets more and more strained, and they begin to find themselves being attracted to other people.
