Character Analysis

Grew Up… in the afterlife. In 2033, when people die, their consciousnesses can be uploaded to a virtual afterlife. Ingrid is lucky enough to be a Lakeview legacy. Lakeview is one of the most exclusive and expensive virtual afterlife services, and Ingrid’s family has been sending their deceased there for multiple generations. Ingrid grew up with a silver spoon in her mouth and is accustomed to the finer things in life, and she makes that well known to the people around her.
Interests… self-care. Ingrid used to take time to visit the spa and pamper herself quite frequently. But now she’s more appreciative of simpler pleasures, including spending time with her boyfriend’s niece. Instead of the bleach and tone and mani-pedi Ingrid would normally get, they braid each other’s hair and paint each other’s nails.
Relationship Status… dating Nathan for some time. But their relationship is threatened by Nathan’s unexpected death. Because Nathan was so young, he had not begun planning for his afterlife and had to be uploaded to Ingrid’s account instead. While it is possible for their relationship to continue beyond the boundary of death, it puts a lot more of the weight on Ingrid’s shoulders. She is financially responsible for Nathan’s life and any additional services he may need. She also must go through the additional effort of renting VR equipment to meet with him. Ingrid is determined to upload Nathan so that they can be together for eternity.
Challenge… changing what she prioritizes. Ingrid’s wealthy upbringing keeps her from being entirely in touch with the reality of the struggles that those less fortunate than her are faced with. After Nathan’s death, she has adopted a new worldview and is beginning to unlearn some of her bad habits.
Personality… self-involved and a bit uptight. Ingrid has a unique idea of how the world should work, and when that does not match reality, she makes sure to do what she can to change that. Although she’s trying to become a better person, it can be hard for her not to fall back into the comfort of her old ways.
