(Avoiding Spoilers)
Grew Up… performing throughout the country of Ravka with her family. Inej was a talented acrobat who loved to walk on the high wire.
Living… in indentured servitude at The Menagerie, a brothel in the city of Ketterdam. She was abducted by slavers and hasn’t seen her family in years.
Profession… part-time sex worker, part-time “spider”: a member of a gang who climbs into windows, over roofs, and slips away into the night. Inez was recruited to Kaz Brekker’s gang of thieves, and she works for him in return for payments on her indenture.
Relationship Status… single. She’s very close with Kaz, and he shares things with her that he wouldn’t tell anyone else—though she’s never sure that he would choose her over his own ambition. She’s also close to Nina and Jasper, two other members of the gang.
Challenge… surviving their most challenging heist yet. Kaz has agreed to take on a job with an enormous payout, but it requires crossing the Shadow Fold, a magical sea of darkness that holds monsters within it. Inej isn’t even supposed to leave Ketterdam due to her indenture, let alone cross a terrifying supernatural void—and that’s just to get to the job, not even complete it.
Personality… brave, moral, and steadfast. It may seem unusual in her line of work, but Inej is a woman of deep faith, who believes that killing is wrong. She is willing to take on great risk for her friends and allies, but is also sensible, refusing to commit herself to anything that’s not worth the danger. Inej only has herself to count on, so she trusts only a few people, but when she does, it’s unwavering.
