Overview... a theoretical physicist tasked with an unprecedented challenge. When extraterrestrial spacecrafts land around the globe, the world’s governments struggle to figure out how to respond. The American military recruit Ian and the linguist Louise Banks to try to communicate with the mysterious alien race inside the ships and figure out the most important question: Do they come in peace? 

Personality... soft-spoken, intelligent, and grounded. Ian has a good head on his shoulders and can stay calm in even the most unfamiliar of circumstances. He’s an incredibly gifted scientist who takes his work very seriously, but he also has a warm sense of humor. And while he’s generally not one to stir up trouble, he’ll take a risk for something he truly believes in.
