Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living... in Pasadena, California, finally without his overbearing mother. She is the source of most of his stress, nagging him about his life even though he is over 30 years old and successful. He is fortunately able to spend a majority of his time at work and with his group of friends.

Profession... aerospace engineer at Caltech. Howard is often teased by his friends Sheldon, Leonard, and Raj because even though his work is put to direct use in NASA space expeditions, he only has a master's degree (compared to their Ph.D's). His success at work, however, is unquestionable, even leading to his own launch into space as an astronaut.

Interests... comic books, super heroes and science fiction – like the rest of his male friends. However, he appears to care more about looking cool than the rest of them, publicly downplaying his nerdy habits and attempting to wear fashionable clothing.

Relationship Status... married. Recently, Howard tied the knot with Bernadette and moved out of his mother's house to live with her. Up until that point, his pursuits with women were unsuccessful. Howard was not a "hopeless romantic" as much as hopeless, using creepy pick-up lines and tactics that he thought were charming. In his words, "Love is not a sprint. It's a marathon, a relentless pursuit that only ends when she falls into your arms - or hits you with the pepper spray." His relationship with Bernadette seems to be going well, though, and has led to many positive changes in his life.

Challenge... becoming an adult. In many ways, Howard is still a lot like a child. He plays with toys and video games and is completely inexperienced in interacting with women. However, his marriage, high level job and escape from his mother quickly put him into the throes of growing up, something that will hopefully prompt a change for the better in his personality.

Personality... surpringly confident. He is fearless in the face of rejection when it comes to women and relatively unaffected when made fun of for his lesser education. Howard is very open with his opinions on almost everything and comes off as "creepy" with the opposite sex. But in his words, "If it's 'creepy' to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then fine, I'm 'creepy'."
