Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew up… under the wing of his father, George Hamlin. Having been close associates with Charles McGill,  his father cofounded HHM with Charles and made a name for himself as a lawyer. Having also decided to pursue a career in law, Howard has always felt a constant, aching pressure to live up to his father.

Living… in a luxurious mansion. Howard lives an upper-class life with a nice house, a nice car, and everything else that signals to the world a high social status. Howard has high expectations for himself and his image, so he does everything he can to maintain the illusion of a perfect life.

Profession… a partner at HHM law firm, and the namesake for the second “H” (Hamlin, Hamlin, and McGill). Howard has always done exactly what is expected of him, following in the footsteps of his father his entire life. Conveniently, this signifies exactly how he performs his job. Now that he has essentially taken the helm in the absence of both his father and Charles McGill, he always does what is best for the firm, no questions asked.

Interests… buying expensive clothes, expensive accessories, and expensive cars. Howard is a fan of the finer things in life, and he likes to broadcast his success through the way that he presents himself.

Challenge… running the law firm through adversity. Because Howard feels such a strong obligation to preserve what he, his father, and Charles have built with HHM, he places a lot of pressure on himself to approach any problems that they may face with swift and seamless solutions. However, running such a complex operation is not so easy, and Howard must learn how to juggle with the consequences and externalities of the decisions that he makes as a leader.

Personality… charming, professional, and put together. Howard is a picture perfect and squeaky-clean lawyer who places his professionalism and the way that he presents himself to the world over almost anything else. Something of a perfectionist, high expectations have molded him into the successful man that he is today.
