Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up... in the country, but she left when she was fourteen. She's been taking care of herself for a long time.

Living... in a New York brownstone apartment with a cat who still doesn't have a name.

Profession... entertainer. She specializes in having conversations with rich, lonely men. Most of the time, they thank her by taking her to exclusive parties or buying her expensive earrings. Another man she visits at Sing Sing prison pays her $100 per hour in cash in the mail through his lawyer. It helps pays her rent, but she doesn't have much left over. She lives on cottage cheese and melba toast.

Interests... champagne and cigarettes. Above all, Holly knows two things - what she wants, and how to have fun while getting it.

Relationship Status... dating several men, including a Brazilian diplomat named Jose who may end up being Brazil's President some day. The only catch is that someone who calls himself Doc Golightly claims to be married to her already.

Challenge... dealing with her extreme mood swings. Holly can be the life of the party, but she can also get severely depressed. For her, it's not just the blues. As she explains, "The blues are because you're getting fat and maybe it's been raining too long, you're just sad that's all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you're afraid and you don't know what you're afraid of." Thankfully, browsing for jewelry at Tiffany's always puts her in a better mood.

Personality... a free spirit. She says and does the most outrageous things and doesn't care what others think. But as her neighbor points out, she may not be as free as she thinks she is. Although she desperately wants attention, she is not sure what to do with it once she gets it. She won't let anyone too close to her – even her own cat. Maybe it's because she is afraid others will find out her secrets.
