Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living… with superpowers. As Elastigirl, she is hyper-quick and infinitely flexible. She can take the shape of many functional objects, like a parachute or slingshot. But she has been forced to hide as "Helen" under the protection of the Superhero Relocation Program, which grants superheroes amnesty in exchange for promising to never again resume hero work.

Profession… super-mom. Married with three kids to Bob Parr, aka Mr. Incredible, Helen has been forced to relocate her family multiple times to keep their identity a secret. Helen is now content to be a parent. She is more of a disciplinarian than Bob and uses her superpowers to maintain order in the house. As a mother, she’s no less vigilant in fighting against domestic evils. Whether it’s reassuring her daughter that, “you have more power than you realize” or yelling at her husband (a former superhero himself), “I can’t believe you don’t want to go to your own son’s graduation,” Helen keeps her family together through thick and thin.

Relationship Status… married. Helen’s relationship with Bob is generally stable and happy. The main point of contention is their “glory days” of fighting crime. Bob accuses her of wanting to pretend like they never happened, but really she just wants to move on and raise their family.

Challenge… keeping her superpowers secret. Helen is having a tough time giving up her Elastigirl identity. As she puts it: “Leave the saving of the world to the men? I don’t think so!”

Personality… strong-willed and intelligent. Flexibility is more than a superpower for her; it’s a key tenet of her personality, one which allows her to be both firm and understanding.
