Overview... an author whose fiction comes too close to fact. Harry’s latest novel is clearly based on the affair of an acquaintance. His love life is a mess, and he’s still seeing call girls in the meantime. The woman he’s in love with is soon to be married. At least the book is selling well.
Personality… neurotic and sex-obsessed, but talented. Harry has never quite gotten the hang of life, but fiction gives him his escape. He considers himself a success in that world and a failure in the real one. His only goal is to know himself and his limitations, yet he finds it to be incompatible with his art. The ideal would to be a work of art himself.

This film tells the story of a successful writer called Harry Block, played by Allen himself, who draws inspiration from people he knows in real-life, and from events that happened to him, sometimes causing these people to become alienated from him as a result.
