Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living… in New York City, in an apartment with her roommate Becca, who is also her best friend. Becca’s fiance, Mike, who recently proposed, is often seen around the apartment. Harper and Becca have a great relationship and are respectful and supportive of each other. If only Kirsten could have that.

Profession… personal assistant to Kirsten Stevens, a famous sports reporter/analyst for ESPN. Harper’s task as Kirsten’s assistant includes taking phone calls, managing Kirsten’s work and personal schedule, bringing her food, and running other errands. She is often overworked and expected to do everything as told by her boss whether it is reasonable or not. Harper’s career ambition is to become a writer, which is the only reason why she dedicated her past few years as Kirsten’s assistant, hoping that Kirsten’s mentoring and support will lead to a great sports writing job. But she has little to show for her hard work so far. As she puts it, “I worked so hard at being this great assistant and making sure she was happy that... I don't know, feels like I might have lost any writing skill I ever had.”

Interests… sports of all kinds. Harper has a special soft spot for the geriatrics Olympics, which make her emotional, thinking about how seniors follow through and chase their dreams despite their age.

Relationship Status… single. Harper has been downloading Tinder and going on dates, but she hasn’t met anyone yet. The only guys she regularly sees are in her office building because she works all the time. She’s started to bond with Charlie, who has a boss who is almost as demanding as Kristen.

Challenge… getting some time off from work. It sounds crazy, but Charlie and Harper have an idea of how they can both achieve that: setting up their workaholic bosses with each other. If their bosses hit it off and start seeing each other, they wouldn’t be in the office as much. It’s a good theory, but the execution requires a lot of things to line up. It all starts with a planned “Meet Cute.”

Personality… funny, optimistic, and energetic. Harper can be the life of the party, but she’s lost the spirit she used to have. And she’s trying her best to get that back.
