Gretta James

Grew Up… in England. Gretta spent most of her life there. 

Living… in New York with her American boyfriend Dave Kohl, who has been her songwriting partner. But after he landed a record deal, Dan makes it clear that he wants to move on from Gretta. Thankfully, she can crash with Steve, who is the only other friend she has in the city. They know each other from “uni.”

Profession… singer and songwriter. Gretta enjoys writing heartfelt lyrics that pair perfectly with low production and stripped-back vocals. She values authenticity in the musical artists she listens to. The musical artists she enjoys include Bob Dylan, Randy Newman, and Leonard Cohen. Although Greta is talented, only her cat has had the pleasure of the songs she sings. 

Relationship Status… single. Gretta is rebounding from her relationship with Dave and isn’t ready to jump into another relationship anytime soon.

Challenge… becoming comfortable with performing again. Her relationship with music has been linked to her ex, so she has had a hard time getting back into signing.  Her friend Steve has an idea of how to help get Gretta back on her feet: singing at an open mic competition in a club in the Village. And the good news is that a music producer named Dan discovered her at the club and wants to sign her. The bad news is he has no money to help her get a demo produced. Together, they’re going to need to be creative for both of their careers to take off.

Personality… witty, creative, and genuine. Gretta is incredibly charming once you surpass her blunt exterior. She is unapologetic about what she loves, and this is immediately obvious to those around her.
