Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Grew Up… in the Burrow, the Weasleys’ infamously haphazard home (held together by magic) near the village of Ottery St. Catchpole. Ginny is the youngest of seven siblings, and the only girl born into the Weasley family for generations. Because she grew up with so many older brothers, Ginny developed a tough exterior and isn’t as feminine as some of her peers. Her brothers are all fiercely protective of her, but she doesn’t really need much protecting – she is known to produce a particularly powerful Bat-Bogey Hex, which she once uses on the very deserving Draco Malfoy.
Living… at Hogwarts School in Gryffindor Tower, like all her family members before her. Ginny is a year behind the legendary Harry Potter and her brother Ron (Harry’s best friend) in school, and is close to them and to their good friend Hermione Granger, though she has her own friends as well. Ginny is popular, with a good sense of humor, and is friendly with people from all the Houses (except Slytherin, of course).
Profession… student. Like everyone else at Hogwarts, Ginny wades through piles of schoolwork in between Quidditch practices and weekend excursions to Hogsmeade.
Interests… playing Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team and cuddling her Pygmy Puff, Arnold. To Ron’s surprise, Ginny exhibits excellent flying abilities when she tries out for the Quidditch team in her fifth year. Hermione, however, knew that Ginny had been breaking into the broomshed at The Burrow for years to practice flying in secret, since her brothers never let her play with them. Ginny is an extremely talented Chaser, and goes on to play professionally for the all-female team the Holyhead Harpies.
Relationship Status… serial dating her way through Hogwarts. As a young girl, Ginny has a huge crush on Harry and can barely even speak around him. As she gets older, however, she gets more comfortable around Harry and begins attracting a lot of male attention elsewhere. She has a short relationship with a Ravenclaw named Michael Corner, then moves on to Harry and Ron’s roommate and fellow Gryffindor Dean Thomas. (SPOILER!) However, when Harry is in his sixth year and begins to realize he has romantic feelings for his best friend’s younger sister, the two finally begin a relationship, and Ginny admits she never really gave up on him.
Challenge… aiding Harry and the rest of the Order of the Phoenix in the fight against the Dark Lord, Voldemort. Despite her young age, Ginny is more than willing to take up arms against Dark wizards. Most notably, she and a few other members of Dumbledore’s Army help Harry fight Death Eaters in the Ministry of Magic during her fourth year. Ginny also faces the challenge of dating one of the most endangered wizards of all time; Harry’s life is constantly threatened, and he even tells Ginny he can’t be with her for a while because he doesn’t want to put her life in danger, too.
Personality... feisty, witty, and independent. Ginny is not a witch you want to mess with. She is loyal and brave, and isn’t afraid to throw a hex at anyone who insults or threatens her friends or family. She is also extremely kind and accepting, and defends her eccentric Ravenclaw friend Luna Lovegood when people call her “Loony” or an “oddity.” Ginny has a vibrant and energetic personality and is well-liked by almost everyone.
