Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up… with his six siblings in The Burrow, a haphazardly built, teetering wizarding house outside of Ottery St. Catchpole in England. Fred and his twin brother George have always been the most rambunctious Weasley children, playing pranks on their siblings and causing mayhem practically since birth.

Living… at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, in Gryffindor Tower. Like all the Weasleys before (and after) him, Fred was sorted into Gryffindor when he was a first year. By the time the famed Harry Potter arrives at Hogwarts, Fred is in his third year, and has long since mastered the secret passageways in and out of the castle.

Profession… lackadaisical student and passionate prankster. Though Fred and George are by no means dumb, they prefer to apply their brains to other pursuits besides school. Such as, inventing Skiving Snackboxes filled with sweets that make you ill so you can get out of going to class.

Interests… teasing his younger brother, Ron; playing Beater on the Gryffindor Quidditch team; and making everyone laugh. Fred and George are extremely well-liked by their peers and know how to throw a good after-Quidditch party in the common room. However, a good party has nothing on Fred’s other favorite pastime: Poking fun at his little brother, “Ickle Ronniekins,” just to watch his ears turn bright red from embarrassment.

Relationship… single. Fred is not really the relationship type. Though he and George are definitely flirtatious (particularly with local Muggle girls), one of the few times Fred has a real date in his first few years at school is when he asks Angelina Johnson, a fellow Gryffindor Quidditch player, to attend the Yule Ball with him. Of course, she agrees; who could say no to such a charming and confident young man?

Challenge… making his sometimes smothering mother understand his heart’s desire to open a joke shop. Mrs. Weasley often laments the fact that the twins are less than enthused about schoolwork, instead holing up in their bedroom to invent trick wands and Puking Pastilles. She doesn’t see humor as a viable career option, but Fred and George are determined to mix business with pleasure and open up a joke shop where they can sell their kooky products.

Personality… outgoing and goofy, but protective. It goes without saying that Fred is brave; after all, he is in Gryffindor. More importantly, Fred is a charismatic and hilarious young man whose sole purpose seems to be entertaining others. He and George are known for their antics and really have a knack for practical jokes. Aside from his silliness, Fred is extremely caring and protective of his family, especially his baby sister Ginny, who he often goads about her love life.
