Overview... a waitress at a New York City restaurant. Alas, life has passed her by somewhat. Weary of the world, she lives with the anxiety of just existing: “I'm afraid. I'm afraid to be alone, I'm afraid not to be alone. I'm afraid of what I am, what I'm not, what I might become, what I might never become.”
Personality... sweet, nervous, and perhaps a little depressed. When she meets the new short-order cook who has just left prison, Johnny, she might have met her match. Johnny is struggling with his own self-worth as well, and the two might be able to bring each other out of their funks.

When Johnny is released from prison following a forgery charge, he quickly lands a job as a short-order cook at a New York diner. Following a brief fling with waitress Cora, Frankie develops an attraction for Cora's friend and fellow waitress Frankie. While Frankie resists Johnny's charms initially, she eventually relents when her best friend, Tim, persuades her to give Johnny a chance.
