Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up… hardly. Frank, even in middle age, manages to be both immature and inconsiderate. Confronting a romantic rival, Frank tells him, “I’m sure we can handle this situation maturely, just like the responsible adults that we are. Isn’t that right, Mr. Poopy Pants?”

Living… in Los Angeles, a city under constant threat by criminals and terrorists. After his partner, Officer Nordberg, is severely injured during a botched heroin bust, Frank has to be extra vigilant.

Profession… police officer, and proud of it. Frank has always been serious about his job, taking pride in his many titles and introducing himself as “Sgt. Frank Drebin, Detective Lieutenant, Police Squad.”

Relationship Status… falling for Jane Spencer. But while he likes her, Frank also knows that his profession doesn’t always allow for a healthy relationship: “Cops and women don’t mix. It’s like eating a spoonful of Drano. Sure, it’ll clean you out, but it’ll leave you hollow inside.” To make it worse, Jane is the assistant to wealthy businessman Vincent Ludwig, who Drebin is starting to think is actually a dangerous criminal.

Challenge… protecting the Queen of England on her visit to Los Angeles. There's a plot in the works to kill Queen Elizabeth, and Frank and the rest of Police Squad have been assigned to stop it. However, it's anyone's guess whether bumbling Frank and the rest of his ditzy squad are up to the challenge.

Personality… immature, stupid, and clumsy. Although he (somehow) has a fairly good track record for catching criminals, Frank has also been known to cause more trouble than he prevents. However, if there's one man up to the task of saving the Queen, then it's Frank – or so everyone hopes. Let's just hope Los Angeles is still standing when he's done.
