Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew up… the last human in the Land of Ooo. Finn was discovered and adopted by the famous dog adventurer, Joshua, after he was abandoned in the woods as a baby. He has no memory of his human parents. Joshua raised Finn as his own son, and Finn spent his childhood training to be a mighty hero with his adopted brother, Jake.

Living… in a treehouse with Jake in the mystical Land of Ooo. Ooo is a continent split into a variety of wildly different kingdoms and areas – there’s the Candy Kingdom, which is inhabited by anthropomorphic sweets; the Fire Kingdom, which hosts a species of fire elementals; the city of thieves, where everyone is a thief – there’s really just about every kind of place you could imagine. While Ooo is generally bright, sunny, and happy, its origins are dark: Ooo is a post-apocalyptic earth that was destroyed in a nuclear conflict now only cryptically referred to as the “Mushroom War.”

Profession… mighty hero. While Finn is only 12 years old, he possesses the strength, skill, and courage of a much older man. Finn can’t abide injustice and travels the world with Jake looking for wrongs to right and other adventures.

Interests… adventuring, singing, crafts, and hanging with Jake. Finn is a laidback sort of guy who is able to find the fun in just about anything. He just generally likes being alive, once stating that, “imagination is for turbonerds who can’t handle how kick-butt reality is.”

Relationship status… harboring a huge crush for Princess Bubblegum, the ruler of the Candy Kingdom. The Land of Ooo is populated by countless princesses, most of whom have a crush on the heroic Finn. He doesn’t return their affections, though. He focuses his romantic energy towards Princess Bubblegum, whom he often works alongside to maintain peace in the Land of Ooo.

Challenge… surviving his adventures. Finn’s problems change daily, as he makes it his business to seek out new and dangerous challenges. He’s been to space, deep inside the earth, and all over the continent of Ooo. He stands up to injustice wherever he finds it.

Personality… good-hearted, enthusiastic, and noble. Finn is almost physically incapable of doing the wrong thing, and struggles mightily whenever he’s called upon to deal with anything resembling a moral grey area. While his adventures force him to face life-and-death situations on a daily basis, Finn tends to not take things very seriously, and loves to goof around with Jake. Finn isn’t an idiot but his trusting nature makes it easy to trick him, and the less scrupulous residents of Ooo often take advantage of this weakness.
