Overview… a Catholic priest in northern Scotland in 1914. Palmer is used to a quiet life in his countryside church. However, when war is declared and nearly all the young men in his parish enlist, Palmer knows he cannot stand to stay behind. Reluctantly, he heads to the front a priest and stretcher-bearer, caring for dead and dying.
Personality… dedicated, daring, and spiritual. A man with strong faith and resolve, Palmer is able to remain relatively calm amongst the horrors of trench warfare and is confided in by many troubled soldiers. His belief in Christianity moves him to abstain from violence and exercise compassion for all of the desperation he sees around him. Though the magnitude of pain that war produces at times renders him speechless and unable to offer more than a drooped shoulder to cry on.
