Grew Up… in Chicago, Illinois, a life she is quite content with. When a job opportunity presents itself, however, she might have to leave the Windy City, her friends, and boyfriend behind. 

Living… in Paris. This decision was made on a whim, and, well, she doesn’t know even a tout petit of French. Emily is beyond excited to live in the City of Light (and Love) for a year. However, becoming acquainted with French culture might be harder than she initially thought. “I like Paris, but I’m not really sure Paris likes me,” she admits.

Profession… marketing executive, sent to France for a year to bring an American viewpoint to a respected French marketing firm. The agency is nothing like the offices in the U.S, though, and her point of view is initially considered as trashy as America’s streets.  

Interests… running, French food, and social media (you would hope, as that’s her job). Her personal Instagram account, renamed Emily in Paris, has gained traction ever since she landed in France, climbing from less than 50 followers to well in the thousands. 

Relationship Status… dating Doug, a Chicago homebody who has no greater ambition than watching the Cubs and making out with his girlfriend. Emily describes their relationship as “engaged to be engaged,” although her moving seems to have surfaced some stark differences between them—and not just the seven-hour time change.

Challenge… adjusting to French culture and getting her coworkers to appreciate her. A born people-pleaser, Emily is not at all used to the stoic and rather disenchanting nature of Paris, and she seems to be making as much headway with her job as she is in learning the language. Emily tries to prove herself, although this is near impossible with her boss just looking for reasons to send her home.

Personality… optimistic, adventurous, and optimistic. While many in her position would have left France faster than you can say faux pas, Emily is intent on making an impact, because, above all, she really wants to enjoy the adventure.
