(Avoiding Spoilers)
Grew Up… as the second-oldest daughter to Philip Schuyler, a wealthy American general. Alongside sisters Angelica and Peggy, Eliza was raised in Albany, New York, all the while fascinated by the world around her and seeking her own path.
Living… in New York, which she praises as “the greatest city in the world.” Her sister Angelica often pulls her out to the streets of the city for some excitement. While maneuvering through town, Eliza encounters violence along with the novelty of the Revolution, although that doesn’t stop her from enjoying the moment. As she sings, “look around, look around, at how lucky we are to be alive right now.”
Interests… building and maintaining a family. While the American Revolution is a time of great change and bloodshed, Eliza prefers to have a stable household, one where all family members are under one roof. This proves to be near impossible, however, as her husband cannot, for the life of him, sit still.
Relationship Status… married to Alexander Hamilton. While Eliza loves her husband dearly, he is constantly on the move, desperate for fame, glory, and all else that comes from fighting in the war. Despite Eliza’s pleas for Hamilton to stay and let his family be his “legacy,” Hamilton is much too concerned with earning his place in the history books.
Challenge… putting herself out there. Eliza prefers to live a reserved life, and while she preaches embracing opportunity, she has difficulty doing so on her own. While Eliza initially wants to be a part of her husband’s “narrative,” she finds it easier to pull herself out of history when things get tough, preferring to disappear rather than be too public about her life. While Eliza is perfectly content with enjoying the small things, she must be willing to not only adapt to changes, but also maintain her role in them.
Personality… strong, empathetic, and understanding. Eliza always puts others before herself, and because of that, she is well-loved by everyone around her. While her personality is starkly different from her husband’s, she, like him, is incredibly brave and analytical.
