Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Overview... a young woman living on the waterfront who’s ashamed of the mob’s power over the people. Edie convinces Father Barry to begin a campaign against the mafia, but their numbers are as few as the mob’s are many. She finds another young rebel, Terry Malloy, who hates the mob as much as her, but he can’t yet find the courage to stand up for what he believes in.

Personality… bold, indignant, and sensitive. She feels the pain of every longshoreman killed under nefarious pretenses. And when her brother falls victim to the mob’s violence, she takes it upon herself to convince Terry to testify in court.  In her eyes, her strong sense of justice trumps all other values.
