Overview… an 11-year-old Taiwanese-American. Eddie and his family have recently moved from D.C.’s Chinatown to a predominantly white Orlando neighborhood. To say that the Huangs have trouble adjusting to the culture of their new home is putting it mildly.
Personality…rebellious. Whether it’s his mother’s high academic standards or the ignorant assumptions of his classmates, Eddie isn’t Eddie unless he is fighting against something or other. The preteen puts on a tough act, yet the casual racism he faces in Orlando is hard to brush off. Eddie Huang may have swagger to spare, but life isn’t exactly easy for an Asian hip-hop enthusiast living in the 1990s South.

Fresh Off the Boat is a genre-bending venture into subculture through the lens of food. Raw, wild, and heartfelt, Eddie Huang gets down in the underbellies of cities around the world in search of what's cooking in their back alleys and underground spots. He's hunting rabbits with biker gangs in Oakland, eating seafood and surfing in Taiwan, hitting low-rider BBQs in East LA, and dining on rice and beans with your drug dealer's grandmother in Miami.
