Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up… as the daughter of an Earl. But Diana never took her privileged background for granted. She worked in a cleaning job for her sister, and she was also an assistant for a kindergarten class.

Living… a fairytale dream that has turned into a nightmare. When Diana met Prince Charles, she thought he was the most “gorgeous, cleverest, handsomest man [she] had ever met.” They had a whirlwind romance that led to a quick engagement when she was only 19 years old. But after the wedding, things have not turned out as she had hoped.

Profession… member of the British royal family, the “People’s Princess,” and future Queen.  The good news is that the public adores Diana wherever she goes—she has received more positive media attention than any of the royals ever have. But the bad news is she is starting to overshadow Charles, which he is not taking well.

Interests... her two boys. The royal family’s extensive history of busy parents and detached relations worries Diana as she fights to offer her children, William and Harry, a normal childhood away from the privilege and nannies. The Princess almost makes up for the lack of care and affection she receives from her in-laws by doting on her boys.

Relationship Status… in a tumultuous relationship with the future king of England who is still in love with his ex-girlfriend, Camilla. Right before their wedding, Diana discovered a bracelet that Charles had made for Camilla and confronted him about it at that time. He said it was over, but Diana is coming to realize that his heart is with Camilla. And it’s getting crowded with three people in their marriage.

Challenge… her depression. Not surprisingly, Diana has become in despair given everything she’s gone through. She’s turned to bulimia, losing more weight every day.

Personality… a mix of sympathy, acuity, femininity, humility, perseverance, and sensitivity. Diana is an amalgamation of the brightest traits along with some darker ones. Her unrelenting emotions of loneliness and depression affect her relationships and can sometimes cloud her judgment. But once she discovers her potential as the Princess of Wales, she uses it to her advantage by independently leading successful tours and becoming a glamorous global icon. Her own melancholy eventually forces her to help others overcome theirs. Diana is a dazzling woman who, despite her troubles, manages to make the world a better place.
