Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Overview... a transfer student at a swanky 1950s New England prep school from working-class Pennsylvania. Any class prejudice his fellow students might have held against David quickly disappears when he proves himself as a star quarterback, which is why the school recruited him in the first place. But David fears his WASPy peers wouldn’t be nearly as tolerant if they learn that he’s Jewish – and he’s right.
Personality... honest, hard-working, and likable. David has an easy, confident manner that draws people to him. But in the rarefied world of St. Matthews, differences in religion, race, ethnicity, and class matter a great deal indeed. If David’s Judaism is revealed, many of his new friends might turn their backs on him no matter how good a guy he is.
