Character Analysis

Living… in a house in Los Angeles with his girlfriend and their roommate, Mike.
Profession... rapper, under the name Lil Dicky. Dave was a business major at the University of Richmond, and after he graduated, he took a job at a corporate ad agency. He had comedic dreams, but he had a realistic look at his prospects saying "I'm funny, but maybe I'm one of a hundred thousand funny people, you know?" Dave has set his sights on becoming a rapper, and he goes by Lil Dicky. He put stuff online for the first time, and The Lil Dicky video got a million views on the first day. It was one of the best days of his life. As Dave says, "It was the day I learned I was who I thought I was. It was a fantastic I-told-you-so moment."
Interests… basketball, rap, drinking, being praised, and engaging in intercourse with his sex toys.
Relationship Status… in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend Ally, who is a kindergarten teacher. They have differences in terms of professional aspirations and maturity, but Ally is extremely supportive of Dave’s career. And he’s not sure what he’d do without her.
Challenge… the fact that his genius has, so far, gone largely unrecognized. As a white rapper, he gets lumped in with the likes of Macklemore, but he believes that he’s destined to become the world’s greatest rapper. Dave says his fears about rapping are never about failure; it’s about extreme success. On a personal level, Dave’s genetalia has posed a problem for him throughout his life, given that he has hypospadias. He’s managed to make the most of it by having it feature heavily in his music.
Personality... neurotic and anxious with an overinflated sense of self. It might be difficult to understand the appeal that Dave holds to so many of the people around him, or what about him causes the kind of loyalty that friends of his like Mike and Gata have. But somehow people can’t help but like him.
