Profession… police officer, though not just any police officer. Dan “Hondo” Harrelson is a sergeant in the L.A.P.D’s specialty S.W.A.T. division, where he has been tasked with assembling a new squad of elite officers to handle the city’s most dangerous crime and improve the public perception of the police.

Interests… shooting, shouting, and talking smack. A former marine and enthusiastic thrill-seeker, Hondo spends most of his time doing things related to the S.W.A.T. unit, especially making wagers and initiating contests among the other officers. When he does have a moment off, he – somewhat surprisingly – enjoys a relaxing game of golf, though he’s always on call for emergencies.

Relationship Status… single. Hondo is married to the work, meaning that his teammates are his closest relationships, and he cherishes them. After training, he warns them: “One casualty may be acceptable by department standards, but it’s never acceptable by mine.”

Challenge… keeping ahead of the curve. The nature of S.W.A.T. work means that Hondo has to make life-or-death decisions in a matter of seconds, orchestrating plans and procedures for the entire team. This proves particularly tricky when infamous international criminal Alex Montel arrives in L.A., initiating a crime wave.

Personality… bold, intense, and caring. Hondo has strong opinions, and isn’t afraid to voice them. His energy and passion for his work give him the reputation of being a go-getter, yet he is savvy and analytical enough to know when an innovative approach will enhance a mission’s likely success. Known for his “old-school” attitude, those who don’t know Hondo assume that he’s gruff and distant. However, once you get to know him, you’ll realize that he’s actually quite aware and considerate of the people around him. For Hondo, his squad is his family, and he takes special care to ensure that they all feel supported and cared for, despite his fondness for good-natured sarcasm.
