Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew up… in Morocco, but not much else is known about Cypher. Donning a face concealing mask, Cypher’s identity and past is almost as cryptic as his playstyle. Regardless, as little as is known about him, he still mysteriously knows nearly everything about everyone else around him.

Role… sentinel. His background as an information broker is indicative of how he thinks and behaves now on the battlefield, always on the hunt for valuable information. Cypher is there to make sure that his team never has to play on their heels. He locks down sites better than anyone, always making sure to have surveillance up on all corners so his team can ready their defenses and shut down any attacks swiftly.

Interests… cameras, wires, and any other tech that helps him keep tabs on the enemy. He utilizes cameras to surveil the opponent, places tripwires to keep them from sneaking around corners, and employs neural technology to gain intel directly from the opponents’ brain. Once he knows where they are, he places cages, which disorient and slow the enemy to prevent quick attacks. Bottomline, Cypher understands that information comes at a premium, and he does everything he can do to possess the most of it on the battlefield.

Challenge… attacking. Given his passive and defensive playstyle that typically relies on the enemy initiating combat, Cypher can struggle to initiate it himself without any ways to threaten the opponent directly other than as a marksman. On defense he can make an area impenetrable to the opponent, but on offense he lacks the means to penetrate enemy lines meaning he must be much more creative regarding how to gain the valuable intel that he relies on.

Personality… analytical, secretive and observant. His personality is defined in great part by a love for knowledge. A bit too cryptic to be considered a leader, Cypher offers incredible support to his teammates by sharing the intel that he gathers about the enemy team with those around him, making him a fantastic fit for a more supportive role. He does not necessarily have to get his hands dirty to help his teammates, rather, he can help through a more remote approach.
