Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Overview... an idealistic woman whose innocence stands in contrast to her harsh childhood. After her father left, Cosette's mother, Fantine, was forced to leave her with the greedy Thénardiers. Jean Valjean, an ex-convict, luckily rescued Cosette and raised her as his own daughter. While Cosette is deeply devoted to her foster father, her need for independence and the first pangs of romantic love may soon leave the two at odds.

Personality... sweet, kind, and devoted to those she loves. Raised for several years in a convent, Cosette might appear outwardly demure and naive, but she's more daring than she appears– "more of a lark than a dove." While her innocence often causes others to try to shield her, Cosette may be more ready than Valjean thinks to face the harsher parts of life.
