Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Overview... first lady of the Civil Rights Movement. As the wife of renowned civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr., Coretta is part icon and part diplomat. But in private Coretta must raise her family with little help from her less-than-present – and perhaps less-than-faithful – famous husband.
Personality... poised, dutiful, and supportive. In her mind, one of Coretta’s most important responsibilities is to be a strong yet forgiving support network for her husband. But Coretta isn’t a pushover; she just selflessly believes that the necessity of ending racial inequality far outweighs everything else, including her personal happiness. Martin isn’t the only King who is sacrificing greatly for the cause.
