Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Overview... the recently crowned King of Denmark. But Claudius didn’t earn his throne through righteous means, instead he secretly murdered his older brother King Hamlet in order to seize power and marry his brother’s wife Gertrude. Though he’s earned the trust of most of the kingdom, Claudius’ biggest concern is his brooding nephew Hamlet, who seems to realize his uncle isn’t as honorable as he appears.
Personality... regal, authoritative, and devious. To the outside world, Claudius is a competent, if slightly taciturn, ruler. But inside he’s not quite as self-assured as he appears. He feels slight guilt over his ignominious rise to power, although he’s still willing to do just about anything – including murder another family member – to keep his throne.
