Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew up… in a wealthy and connected family. A ruthless lawyer, his father tried to teach him everything he knows including not to show any weakness. Chuck has a blind trust, which his father is a trustee of. But Chuck now tries to distance himself from his family’s wealth as much as possible because the money comes with too many strings attached.

Living… in a Brooklyn townhouse with his wife Wendy and their children, Kevin and Eva.

Profession… U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Brilliant and ambitious, U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades is leading the fight against financial corruption in America. He’s won 81 insider trading cases without losing a single case. Chuck credits his strategic approach to his winning track record. As he says, “Calculation is not something to be scoffed at. It's a tool. A tactic. And I use it proudly and often.” Chuck is determined to make a name for himself to position him to eventually run for Attorney General of New York.

Relationship… married to Wendy, who he met at Yale. Beautiful and sexy, Wendy turns Chuck on so much. They regularly engage in bondage, dominance, and sadomasochism. Although Chuck is an alpha male at work, he likes to be in the submissive role with his dominatrix wife. The kinkier sex acts, the better.

Challenge… taking on Bobby “Axe” Axelrod, a hedge fund manager who manages billions and may be involved in insider trading. It’s going to be a tough case. Compared to his prior targets that were smaller fish, Axe is a titan in the hedge fund world and is popular because he supports so many charitable causes. And if that’s not challenging enough, his wife Wendy happens to work for Axelrod’s hedge fund as its in-house psychiatrist and “performance coach.” For many reasons, Chuck realizes that he needs to proceed with caution.

Personality… ambitious and analytical but at times also grumpy and hotheaded. Given his family’s background, Chuck could have taken easier and more lucrative career paths. Wanting to end financial corruption and make the world a better place, Chuck has admirable intentions. But in going after the bad guys, it’s becoming harder to figure out where to draw the line between what is bad and good.
