Billy Tyne

Grew Up… in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Billy grew up among the docks and wharfs of northeastern Massachusetts. He is a part of the landscape. One can tell by the reverential tone in which he speaks of his hometown: “You head out to South channel, past Rocky Neck, Ten pound island. Past Niles Pond, where I skated as a kid…”

Living… day to day. Times are tough for Billy, who is divorced with two daughters to care for. After a dry spell on his fishing boat, he’s desperate for a bit more cash.

Visiting… the Grand Banks and the Flemish Cap, just off the coast of Newfoundland. Billy has taken his fishing boat, the Andrea Gale, back out to sea for one more expedition in search of lucrative swordfish.

Profession… captain of the Andrea Gale. Billy was born to be a swordfish boat captain. In his words, “I’m doing what I was made to do – and I’ve got a feeling I’m going to do it even better this time.”

Interests… although he spends much of his on-land time at the fisherman’s bar, The Crow’s Nest, Billy is only truly himself when out at sea.

Challenge… making it back to shore alive. Billy and his crew scored a good catch up north, but upon their return they have been caught in the middle of what meteorologists are calling “The Perfect Storm,” a confluence of several severe weather fronts and a hurricane. If they’re going to make the trip worth it and sell their catch – and live, period – they’ve got to make it through the storm somehow.

Personality… charming, romantic, and tough. Billy has faced a few setbacks in life, but he still believes in himself. He is a man who does what he loves to do, a fact that fills him with satisfaction and pride. As he boasts, “I always find the fish. Always!” But his skill on the seas will be tested like never before by this immensely powerful storm.
