Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Grew up… to be scared of everything. Bill’s neuroses may stem from the bad reactions that he’s had to many types of food. “My doctor says I’m allergic to more things than anyone he’s ever seen,” he says.
Living… in Chippewa, Mich. Bill lives the life of a total “geek.” He’s weak, scared and has embarrassing tastes. Even his friends and fellow geeks make fun of his love of the TV show Dallas.
Profession… high school student. Bill does O.K. academically, but has a lot of difficulty with physical education: “This push-up’s too hard to push up.”
Interests… watching Dallas. Aside from that, Bill likes to spend time with his two friends, Sam and Neal.
Relationship Status… single. Bill shows an interest in girls, but has always been unsuccessful when it comes to getting a date. “I’d be happy just to get a wife,” he says. “But I don’t think I want the kind that gets old and fat.”
Challenge… fitting in. Bill is easily the biggest nerd at McKinley High, and he’s trying his best to become a bit more of an alpha-male. “Be dominant,” he tells Sam, “It’s all—all about dominance. I saw this monkey show on PBS. You talk to her first, it’s a sign of weakness, and she will not pick you to be her mate.”
Personality… quirky, geeky and awkward. Bill, despite his sweetness, is painfully shy and constantly scared of succumbing to one of his numerous allergies. It doesn’t seem like high school will be an easy road for Bill, but hopefully he’ll blossom in college and beyond.
