Bill Foster

Grew Up... hoping to change the world. As a young man, Bill worked for the secret governmental agency S.H.I.E.L.D. and did pioneering scientific work with Hank Pym. The two worked together on Project G.O.L.I.A.T.H. to use Hank’s revolutionary Pym Particles to enlarge people as well as shrink them. However, their partnership eventually ended poorly. As Bill notes, “The only thing more tiring than going that big is putting up with Hank’s bull—.”

Living... in Northern California.

Profession... biochemistry professor at UC Berkeley. Once S.H.I.E.L.D. collapsed, Bill moved into a more conventional job as a college professor, where he has a particular interest in quantum physics.

Interests... science, physics, and bragging about the time he grew 21 feet tall during Project G.O.L.I.A.T.H.

Relationship Status... single. Bill doesn’t seem to have married or had children, but he does have a certain paternal spirit about him.

Challenge... dealing with his grudge against Hank—and maybe something more. All sorts of old resentments reemerge when Hank, his daughter Hope van Dyne, and their ally Scott Lang unexpectedly show up at Berkeley to ask for Bill’s help. Bill is reluctant to aid a man he considers to be temperamental, stubborn, impatient, and cruel, although he offers what little advice he can about their mission to rescue Janet van Dyne from the Quantum Realm. Yet it’s also possible that something more is at play too. Bill still has a lot of secrets from his time at S.H.I.E.L.D., and although Hank, Hope, and Scott are the ones who coming looking for his help, it’s possible he needs something from them too.

Personality... bighearted, but able to hold a fierce grudge. For the most part, Bill has a warm, fatherly demeanor, although he can be guff when he’s butting heads with Hank. With other people, however, Bill is charming, funny, and thoughtful, which serves him well as a college professor. A brilliant scientist, Bill will sometimes stretch his ethical limits to help the people he loves. Ultimately, however, he has strong moral lines he won’t cross.
