Grew Up… in a family of treasure hunters. Ben’s grandfather told him legends and tales of hidden riches across the world, though Ben’s dad was never as supportive of the activity. After receiving degrees from MIT and Georgetown, Ben (full name: Benjamin Franklin Gates) went on to dedicate his life to his passion – finding lost artifacts and turning legends into reality.
Living… in a world where nothing is what it seems. Ben wanders the globe, pursuing legendary treasures that many think long-lost.
Profession… treasure-hunter. Which also translates to cryptographer, professional diver, mechanical engineer, historian, and world-class adventurer. Ben's unique trade means he must wear many hats.
Interests… reading historical records, collecting various antiques, and of course, searching for clues pertaining to hidden treasure. His claims are often outlandish, leading his sidekick Riley to comment, “Anyone who can do anything is going to think we’re crazy, and anyone who will believe us isn’t gonna want to help.”
Relationship Status… single. After all, it’s pretty hard to keep a steady partner when you’re traipsing all over the world. But the uncommitted bachelor quickly catches the eye of Dr. Abigail Chase, an archivist for the National Archives.
Challenge… knowing who to trust. Ben become entangled in a complicated web of police, FBI agents, rival treasure hunters, and secret societies, all of whom are vying for the same treasure – the Declaration of Independence. If he is to keep valuable national relics safe, Ben must make quick decisions to stay ahead of the competition.
Personality… funny, determined, and willing to be laughed at. A man with a very particular set of skills, Ben is regarded as an eccentric by most people. He’s aware of this perception, but isn’t dissuaded from his strong convictions by it. Dedicated to unearthing and preserving history, Ben is wracked with remorse when forced to take illegal actions in pursuing his leads. But despite what the law may think, Ben's actions are always grounded by a moral philosophy he rigorously follows: “Here’s to the men who did what was considered wrong, in order to do what they knew was right.”
